Alaska: The cruise bit

So we began our cruise from Sitka, where we were taken to 'The Fortress of the Bear' first. Which is a rescue place for orphan cubs. If a bear is found to be a problem, it is shot, and sometimes that bear has a cub. Usually the cub is shot too. This place somehow managed to convince the government to let them try to show that cubs can be released, which Canada does sometimes.

The bears were really fun to watch. they had black bears and brown bears, but I feel like the brown bears stole the show. We went back into town for a talk at the Russian Orthodox church, and then back out to the 'Raptor Centre', that rescues injured raptor and returns them to the wild if possible. The had eagles, and raven (which need a tonne of toys to keep them busy), and a number of different owls.

We were then taken on to the ship to have dinner. I'm just going to put in my photo of where we went, and give a general run down of what we saw, so it doesn't get too long and tedious.

Kayaking with sea otters was definitely the best!

Brandon got his wish for Orcas.

Harbour seals pup on the ice near the glaciers in Glacier Bay NP

An awesome shot taken by Brandon!

one out of many glaciers

Our boat among the Bergs

We saw lots of humpbacks, but only 1 breach

Standing so close to a grizzly was awesome!

I got my wish for puffins!

we saw a mink on a walk on the first day

I so wish the windows in our cabin opened!

There was a salt room on the ship...

We definitely over ate on king crab!

I spent ages to get a half crummy photo of a hummingbird

pretty :)
It was funny, they kept saying we were going to go to shore for a hike... We never did have a hike on the whole cruise... Bit tamer than we expected maybe. HAHA
