Our housemate's kids were all at their Father's this year for Christmas so she asked me to invite people I knew over to share a turkey dinner. So I ended up just asking the people I work with, and most of them came.
I have discovered there are heaps of things that Canada does differently when it comes to food. You can't buy fresh custard from the supermarket. Hence, trifle is not a things... I had to empty like 8 individual pudding cups into my trifle (I refuse to make custard), and they taste a lot more artificial compared to our custard. There also does not appear to be rolled jam filled sponge cakes here, so I had to buy an angel food cake and cut it up and put jam on it. In hindsight, I probably shouldn't have tried to make trifle.
I found it really funny when a Canadian complained to me that when they were in Australia, our choc chips don't melt properly. Haha. They're not meant to! They're actually designed to hold their shape. That's why you buy chocolate melts if you want melted chocolate! Chocolate melts are not a thing here by the way... obviously...
Fernie was absolutely deserted on Christmas, as you can see from the photo. The supermarket was chockers the day before and the day after though!

This week is meant to be the busiest of the season. It has definitely been busier, but still the hill is fairly empty because it's a massive ski hill. I will be happy when there are less tourists in town though. A lady fully jumped in line in front of me at the shops today, and another nearly ran me over with her trolley and didn't even react... Even Canadians can be rude when they're tourists it seems...
