We've been back in Fernie for about a week now, on our way South. We're regrouping, since the railway to Churchill has been washed out we have decided to go to the USA and East.
Last week we did a day hike up Mount Fernie. It's a pretty decent hike, with a climb of 900m.
About half of the hike is through dense forest and then the top is over rocky steep slopes. The view from up there over the the town was excellent, and it was much easier to keep going once you could see the valley.
The view from the top is a bit dodgey, since there are trees in the way, but we stopped for a bit to eat and rest before trudging back down again.
There were a lot of wildflowers out, especially in the exposed top area, and it was really pretty. It was interesting to see how the types of wildflowers changed depending on how high we were
The very top is a bit of a rock scramble, but it was a fun hike!
