Swansea Bridge dive, No Fear!

Today we did a morning drive at Swansea bridge again. I was rather nervous on the way there because of how my last dive went. You can read about that here. But we have already dived Swansea Bridge, we have met the instructor before and it's a pretty shallow dive, Maximum about 11m. So I dosed myself up on antihistamine nasal spray and sucked it up.

Swimming over some coral
There was such a stark difference between this dive and the one we did where I freaked out. Before the dive we had a pre-dive briefing where the instructor went over where we would get in, what direction we would take (including North/South etc), and he went over separation and emergency ascending procedures too. Last time it was like, right where here get out of the boat. Right we're in the water, go down. Today we literally stopped and he was like "Okay just catch our breath for a bit and then when everyone's ready we'll go down".

The dive was completely smooth sailing, including equalising my ears for once! Antihistamines are my new weapon. For the first time I didn't get ear pain and screaming on the way up too. Which I have never heard anyone say they get too.

Our instructor getting bitten
We saw our first and second moray eels, and our instructor got bitten by one. Apparently they are normal calm and sniff his hand, but this one just had a piece of him. The water was also filled with tiny jellies. They were from the size of a small coin up to about 7cm in diameter. They were pretty fun to touch and try to catch because they just felt like goo. As usual in that spot, there were heaps of fish, but we didn't see any octopus or cuttle fish this time.

Now I just have to decide if I want to do my buoyancy course or advanced adventurer course!

  1. Sounds like a much better dive all round! Some instructors are just far too casual. Donna

    1. Yes! Out of all the companies we've dived with, I would rate Newcastle Dive centre the best, and the one we did our course with the worst!
