Vancouver Island - To the West Coast

We slept in again, and woke up to rain. After eating Nutella on bread in the car for breakfast, we started driving West to Tofino. A short way along we stopped at Little Qualicum falls Provincial Park. It was a pretty little area, and had some great views of the falls in a small canyon.

We then drove a little further to Cathedral grove, which has some pretty big, old trees in it. It wasn't a terribly exciting walk, but it was cool to see the big trees. Root rot is a problem, so there area a lot laying on the ground, and it seems like it takes quite a long time for the wood to rot away.

A tree that had a fire burn its core, that's still alive

root rot and shallow roots mean they fall right out of the ground

The tallest tree in the park
We kept driving and made it to Tofino. We had some lunch near a very windy beach, and then did the few walks in the area.
There is heaps of drift wood on the West coast beaches

In need of replacement??

We drove up to the town of Tofino itself, and got some internet to try and find a camp ground. We found the campsites near Tofino too expensive, so we drove south 30mins to Ucluelet (pronounced You-call-it very quickly), and stayed at Surf Junction Camping.
