Helmcken Falls from the view point |
So, I saw this awesome photo of a waterfall on Pinterest the night before we were to leave Pemberton. And so we made this whole detour back East to get to Wells Gray park.
It was a couple hours drive to the park from our accommodation, and then it would be a couple more to get to our next accommodation. So, I hesitantly explained to Brandon there was a 10km walk to the falls, but we didn't have to do it.
We went to the view point first, and then decided, since the walk was flat, we could fit it in. Most of the walk was unremarkable, but as we got near to the waterfall, we were suddenly walking on a pretty thick layer of snow. Sketchy.
Anyway, Brandon found a 30cm strip of ground between the snowbank and the 141m drop to the gorge bottoms. And he promtly climbed over, then convinced me to join him. So, standing with 10cm between me and certain death, the view that we drank in was the most spectacular either of us have ever seen.

Our precarious view point |
In summer, when you can walk along the edge the whole way, without fear of an ice chunk breaking off and you falling and dying, I imagine it is absolutely awe-inspiring. It only took us 2 and a half hours, but we did walk pretty fast.
We also stopped at the other 2 falls on the way out of the park. There were other walks in the park that looked good, but obviously we didn't have time. So we only did the little view point walks before heading to our next stop.
