Shannon Falls Hike

We arrived back on the mainland again, after a nice nap in the car on the Ferry. This time we landed at Horseshoe Bay, north of Vancouver. We were pretty tired from a fairly late night, so we just bought some groceries and went to our campground for the night.

We seem to be having no trouble sleeping in our tent, so we woke up fairly reluctantly the next morning, and only got underway at half past ten. We drove just to near Squamish to do a walk to Upper Shannon Falls, which is a very large series of waterfalls.

The walk is pretty much, steep stairs for the first 1/3, and then it changes to a mix of rock scrambling, and some easy gradients. It's not really for the faint hearted, so we were glad our fitness has improved since we did the Grouse Grind.

Unfortunately, the map in the car park for Shannon Falls has not been updated since the new Sea to Summit walk was built. So we ended up walking pretty much 5kms of the 7.5km summit walk. Which was ok, but not what we had intended. On the map it looked like the Shannon falls walk veered off from the other walks, but really the summit walk has been added on to the end of the Shannon falls walk.

Oooops... Haha

So, after some very nice people gave us their map, we headed back down again. At around the 4km mark Brandon decided to go “bush-wacking” because he could hear the waterfalls. We did find a nice scenic rock to sit on for a snack.

We were pretty tired after out impromptu 10km hike, so we just went back to our campground to relax before cooking dinner. We were very glad of some wifi that night!
